Gabriele Y. Matthias, MSc, SCPM

Gabriele Yvonne Matthias is a Molecular biologist with over 20 years research experience at the Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research (affiliated with the Novartis Institutes of Biomedical Research and the University of Basel) in the field of epigenetics and gene regulation, studying proteins of high medical relevance implicated in multiple cellular processes.

In addition to her research activity Gabriele has long-time operational and strategic experience in diverse roles such as entrepreneur, early stage investor, teacher, mentor, coach and member of global non-profit executive committees and boards. She was also the Healthcare Business Women’s association’s (www.hbanet.org) President for Europe and member of the global Board.

Gabriele is a co-founder of Dao Tun GmbH. More recently she has founded a plant-based food start-up and she is also a co-founder and Board Member of the "international Women in Science" association iWiS, a network aiming to inspire women and men in STEM to collaborate towards innovation and systemic change. 

Gabriele has written on Forbes.com and received several awards including the LEAD award, the Euroexcellence award and the 2013 President’s award of the Healthcare Businesswomens’ association (www.hbanet.org).

She received a BSc in Biology from the University of Konstanz (Germany), a MSc degree in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from the University of Zürich (Switzerland), a Certificate of Professional Development in Leadership, Strategy, Negotiation and Finance from the Wharton School of Business (University of Pennsylvania, USA). She is also a certified project manager (SCPM) from Stanford Business School, California (USA) and studied at the Edinburgh Business School (UK) as well as at the New England Montessori Center, Mass.
